Jump to RecipeLet’s talk about what you’ll need to make the 4th of July Pie:
2 pie crusts
1 can of blue berry pie filling
2 cans of cherry pie filling
Sugar for sprinkling the on the top of the pie 😋
How to Make this pie:
- Before we get started, pre-heat your oven to 425°
- Second, Place one of the pie crusts in the pie plate.
- Next you’re going to create a right angle with some aluminum foil, this will be the divider between the blueberry pie filling, and the cherry pie filling.
- Last, ensure the divider in the upper left corner of the pie because this will play a major role in the design later!
- Begin by filling the area outside of the divider with cherry pie filling.
- Next, you’re going to want to match the height of the blueberry pie filling to the height of the cherry pie filling.
- Next, roll out your second pie crust and use a cookie cutter or a knife to cut out stars and place in the upper left corner of the pie over the blueberry pie filling.
- To emphasize the look of our nations flag, use a knife to cut wavy stripes out of the pie dough and place on top of the cherry pie filling.
- Lastly, sprinkle the top of the pie with a little bit of sugar.
- Place the pie in the pre-heated oven and cook for 30-35 minutes, or until golden brown.
Lastly Allow the pie to cool, then serve it up and enjoy this patriotic treat!
Did you know?
Independence was formally declared on July 2, 1776, a date that John Adams believed would be “the most memorable epocha in the history of America.” On July 4, 1776, Congress approved the final text of the Declaration. It wasn’t signed until August 2, 1776.
What inspired this 4th of July Pie recipe?
Truthfully, creating a delicious dessert that featured a patriotic assortment of Red, White, and Blue colors was the concept behind this — But so was the idea of making a good old fashioned pie! Cherry pies and Blueberry pies are both delicious, especially served up with a dollop of ice cream or whipped cream topping and finding a way to blend the 2 together was what led to this fun patriotic treat! Making the stars and stripes shapes with the crust was simply a nod to our beautiful American Flag! Freedom doesn’t only look beautiful, but in this case it also tastes beautiful as well!
What if I’m not much of a berry person?
Using the same crust design technique, with the stars and the stripes, I imagine you could make a delicious Apple Pie with the same decorative touch! Granted, you’ll lose the Red and White colors that the cherries and blueberries provide in this recipe, but the theme of the pie should still represent the stars and stripes of Old Glory! (And really, who doesn’t love a good pie anyway?) 🇺🇸
